On June 16, 2021, the working group of the BioRegions elected the speaker committee for the next two years in its digital meeting. Unanimously, Dr. Janin Sameith, project manager for life sciences & bioeconomy at the Hessian business development agency, Hessen Trade & Invest, was elected the new spokesperson.
dr Sameith follows Dr. Kääb, who was managing director of the Bavarian biotechnology cluster until the beginning of 2021 and took over the office in 2019. Under Georg Kääb in office, the intensive cooperation between the AK BioRegio and the industry association BIO Deutschland eV was continued and the jointly organized German Biotechnology Days were further developed. A special focus is the joint initiative of AK BioRegio and Bio. Germany and other representatives from business, science and politics at the establishment of the exchange platform "Industrial Bioeconomy" under the patronage of Economics Minister Altmaier.
Janin Sameith thanked her predecessor, who was no longer available as editor-in-chief after moving to Platform Liefe Sciences: "I would like to thank Georg Kääb on behalf of the entire working group for the committed, inspiring and future-oriented management and will do my best not to be inferior to him. Janin Sameith added: "The BioRegions are Germany's creative and innovative centers in the life sciences. Local core competencies are always kept up to date by the experienced cluster managers based on the individual framework conditions of each location, each region - through new scientific findings, through trend scouting on the international stage, but also through constant exchange with like-minded people. The working group will also offer an excellent platform for this in the future - and I look forward to the upcoming two years as spokeswoman for all regions".
Elected deputies were Dr. Maike Rochon, Head of the Lower Saxony Life Science Network "BioRegioN" and André Hofmann, Managing Director of biosaxony eV, who were once again confirmed in office.
The Working Group of BioRegions in Germany is a voluntary association of German BioRegions and has its office at the Biotechnology Industry Organization Germany e. V. (BIO Germany) in Berlin. The 28 members deal with topics such as financing, founding and technology transfer as well as with the external representation of the German biotechnology industry and other life science industries. Since 2007, the AK BioRegio has been awarding the Innovation Prize of the German BioRegions, a nationwide competition for application-oriented ideas from universities, and organizes the German Biotechnology Days together with BIO Germany.
