OFB Projektentwicklung realizes biotechnology campus in Leipzig and thus creates new headquarters for biotechnology company c-LEcta
OFB will develop a biotechnology campus in Leipzig by the fourth quarter of 2024. The first component with around 10.425 m² of above-ground rental space is already completely attached to the
Biotechnology company c-LEcta leased. The purchase contract for the 11.650 m² property on Alte Messe Street was notarized in July of this year. The seller of the property is LEVG mbh, a company of the city of Leipzig that is responsible for the development and marketing of the "Alte Messe" location.
The project is divided into two components with a total gross floor area of around 27.000 m². With storey heights of four meters and a modern construction grid, the buildings should offer maximum flexibility. Space is created for office and laboratory space, biotechnological facilities as well as training and conference areas. There are also 128 underground and 26 outdoor parking spaces. Construction is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2022. OFB Projektentwicklung is aiming for a DGNB gold certificate for the sustainable project.
c-LEcta is a successful, rapidly growing biotechnology company with currently around 100 employees. The company has its headquarters in Leipzig and develops, among other things, enzymes and microorganisms that are used, for example, for applications in the pharmaceutical industry. After completion of the project, c-LEcta will move completely into the new building and thus receive space of the most modern standard for the further growth of the company.
“Biotechnology and healthcare are among the global future and growth markets. The 'Alte Messe' location has developed into a center for innovative research institutions and technology companies in recent years,” comments Klaus Kirchberger, CEO of OFB. “We therefore see a growing need for properties that are specially tailored to the requirements of this target group. I am very pleased that with c-LEcta we were able to win an innovative tenant who fits this location perfectly.”
dr Marc Struhalla, CEO and Managing Director of c-LEcta, says: "We feel very connected to the Leipzig location. In this respect, we are very happy that companies can take the next growth step here on the site of the 'Alte Messe'. We are very much looking forward to the joint project with OFB.”
The project site is right next to the double M of the Leipzig Sample Fair. The neighboring S-Bahn station "Völkerschlachtdenkmal" and several tram and bus lines offer very good connections to public transport. The ring road can also be reached in less than five minutes. In recent years, several innovative research institutions and companies such as the Fraunhofer IZI, the Max Planck Institute, the Bio-City or the German Center for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) have settled at the "Alte Messe" site.
When planning the project, OFB project development relies on KLM architects and engineers in Leipzig as well as ZBP Zimmermann and Becker for the technical building equipment (TGA).
