»airea – The Airport Region in Central Germany« is one of the top addresses for the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, both nationally and globally. With efficient manufacturers, biologistics specialists and a broad and highly innovative research landscape, there are ideal development conditions and points of contact for companies and investors in the industry. As part of the FlyPharma industry event, which will take place on September 20th and 21st in Leipzig, they will be presented by the three partners of »airea« – Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG (MFAG), Wirtschaftsförderung Sachsen GmbH (WFS) and Sachsen-Anhalt Investment and Marketing Company mbH (IMG) – presented.
»The region scores with functioning production and supplier structures and a structure of professional and technical expertise that has grown over many years. This is essential for the industry due to the complexity of the products and processes, which underlines its attractiveness for companies and investors. We want to present this to a wider audience at FlyPharma,« explains WFS Managing Director Thomas Horn.
As a region, »airea« covers the entire value chain: from research and development to production and marketing to logistics and service. The highly modern and efficient Leipzig/Halle airport location also has a CEIV Pharma certification and is able to handle temperature- and time-sensitive pharmaceutical shipments such as vaccines around the clock. This makes it part of the pharmaceutical trade routes that meet uniform standards worldwide. The airport offers an international distribution network specially designed for the production of vaccines and medicines in the direction of Europe, Africa and the Middle East. A total of over 70 cargo airlines fly to the airport and serve a route network that includes over 270 destinations worldwide.
Goetz Ahmelmann, CEO of MFAG: »Handling temperature and time-critical freight is already part of our everyday business. We want to expand and further strengthen this. We hope that FlyPharma will give »airea« greater international visibility. We want to be more visible to investors and generate even more positive impetus for the marketing of our space.«
In addition to an excellent connection to the trans-European rail and motorway network, the region is characterized by a qualified workforce and a high area and investment potential. Attractive areas for various businesses are available in the Leipzig/Halle Airport area – for example directly at the airport or near Halle (Saale), Bernburg, Sandersdorf-Brehna and Wermsdorf. Settlements in the airport region are particularly attractive for the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors and associated service providers.
Mathias Obieglo, Project Management Coordinator at IMG: »New settlements in the pharmaceutical and logistics sectors find the best location conditions for investment and growth here and can bring time-sensitive freight from the heart of Germany to the destination in the best possible way. Whether international corporations, innovative medium-sized companies or young start-ups - companies value the potential of interdisciplinary and cross-industry cooperation above all.«
