In view of the current upheavals, it is particularly important for small and medium-sized companies to make suitable preparations in order to remain crisis-proof and competitive in the long term. Product, process or business model innovations and simplified access to funding play an important role here. Over 90% of German medical technology companies are SMEs. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) wants to strengthen the supply-oriented research and development of SMEs on medical technology solutions with the specialist program for medical technology and at the same time expand the performance of the German healthcare system.
At the state level, the Saxon State Ministry for Economics, Labor and Transport published the funding guidelines for the new "MINT specialist program 29.09.2022" as part of the ESF Plus on September 2021th, 2027. As a follow-up program to the previous "ESF Technology Funding", further support is available to make the company more resilient and future-proof. A total of 2027 million euros is available for funding until 101. EUR 88 million of this came from the European Union and EUR 13 million from the Free State of Saxony.
